Reflection from a Debutante

St. Brendan’s Debutante Ball – 26th May 2017.

On Friday 26th May, Bryce Hocking and I felt very privileged and happy to participate in the St Brendan’s Parish Debutante Ball.

Before practice started, I felt very nervous.  However, on the first night, the other students were so friendly, I started to relax and enjoy the process.

With every practice, my confidence began to grow and I realized I would be able to walk out in front of 300 people and be presented.  This was a first for me.  Before this journey, I had trouble getting up in front of the class!

There are not many opportunities like this, where you can thank the people who have inspired you.  So I’m going to take this moment, to give thanks to those who have positively influenced my life.

I would like to say a big thank you to the MCP staff for their wonderful support.  They made the lead up to the Deb so much more exciting and many attended the preview. They are all so amazing and dedicated. Huge thanks to Kath for taking the photos and Sel, Jez and Robin for organizing a car. Everyone gave me the belief I could participate and enjoy this journey.  They were right!

Also a big thank you to Arlene for the support and help she has given to me. She always puts her students first no matter what and that's what I like about her. She has made my confidence grow over the past three years and has pushed me out of my comfort zone.  I would not have come so far in life and grown as much, without her care.  And thanks for pushing me that little further to participate in the Deb.

Huge thanks to Bryce for being such a supportive friend and taking the time to share this special night.  We not only learnt how to dance and step on each other’s toes, we also had a lot of fun along the way. Thanks again Bryce.

A massive thank you to my Mum and Dad for supporting me on this special night and dedicating their time to drive me around to practices, dress fittings and all the other appointments I needed.  I’d also like to thank them for supporting me throughout my life and I love them both so much.

A big thank you to the Parish and the Debutante Committee for making this night possible and helping to create special memories for us and our families.  Thanks a million.

This journey is more than being presented and dancing in front of our family and friends. This night was the best ever and has changed my life. Every time I’m faced with a challenge, I now know I can step forward with more confidence and belief in my abilities to succeed.
