(Reconciliation Confirmation First Eucharist)
Children baptised in the Catholic Church complete their initiation into the Catholic faith through the Sacraments of Confirmation and First Eucharist (Holy Communion). As part of their Sacramental journey children will also celebrate the Sacrament of Reconciliation.
Two programs are provided on an annual basis, one for primary aged children and one for Secondary school aged children. The two programs follow the same time line and children celebrate each of the Sacraments at the same liturgies.
Information about the start of both programs is provided through the Parish bulletin and the Catholic Schools; St. Brendan’s Primary School, St. Luke’s Primary School and Notre Dame College. This generally will take place during Term 3.
If your child attends a non-Catholic school, please register your interest to participate in either program by contacting the sacramental coordinator at firstname.lastname@example.org or ringing 5821 2633. Families are encouraged to register as soon as possible to ensure relevant information is received in time.
If your child is NOT baptised, please contact the sacramental coordinator at email@example.com or call on 58212633 as soon as possible as your child will need to be Baptised prior to participating in either program. Baptismal preparation for primary aged children is offered only a couple of times a year and for Secondary students it is offered as part of the Sacramental Program when required.
The program is suitable for children Year 2 (year of enrolment) or older.
We begin with a Parent Information and Enrolment night prior to the end of Term 3.
The Sacrament of Reconciliation is prepared for and celebrated during the month of October and November in the year of enrolment. Children then return the following year to prepare for and celebrate the Sacraments of Confirmation and First Eucharist.
The program consists of parent’s sessions (Adult Faith Gatherings), parent/child workshops and Commitment Masses scheduled during the preparation period.
Sunday Mass is an important part of the child’s preparation and families are expected to attend Sunday mass regularly. If attending the 11am Mass, children are encouraged to participate in Children’s Liturgy of the Word.
Children from non-Catholic schools enrolled in the primary aged program will need to participate in additional After School Religious Classes (four for each Sacrament). These extra classes coincide with the parent/child workshops.
Secondary School students prepare together in a separate group but follow a process similar to that of the younger children and both groups celebrate the Sacraments together.
The program is facilitated by the Parish Youth Ministry Worker and Notre Dame College staff and involves the students attending weekly preparation sessions for each Sacrament. The sessions are generally held after school in the Parish Centre and students will be guided through what it means to receive the Sacraments of Reconciliation, Confirmation and First Eucharist. Students must attend all of these sessions to be fully prepared to receive the sacraments.
Students with their parents will also be expected to attend the Adult Faith Gatherings and Commitment Masses scheduled during the preparation period.
